Dr. O John Ma didn't give up his interest in medicine when he retired. He is still updating many publications that he helped write. In 2020, Ma and Mateer's Emergency Ultrasound, fourth edition, got a new chapter with a lot of new information about how to use ultrasound to find COVID-19.
Dr. John Ma's dedication to patient safety and high-quality clinical care helped him become president of the executive medical committee on the OHSU Professional Board, where he was chair.
From 2007 to 2019, Oregon went from having one staffed emergency room to having five. This was one of the most important things that were done. During this time, the budget went from $10 million to $28 million, making investing in new technology and better patient care easier.
Ma also helped other doctors get training in emergency medicine and started new businesses and charitable projects.
Portland Monthly Magazine named Dr. John Ma a top doctor more than once. He got the OHSU Golden Rose in 2009 for his work in the emergency room and the Pillar of Excellence award for people development the same year. He got many awards for being the best emergency medicine teacher of the year at Truman Medical Center and was often named the best doctor there.
Dr. O John Ma has a lot of interesting hobbies and interests that keep him going. He likes the golf course challenges and trying out new restaurants in New York City. In his free time, he likes to visit museums in and around New York City and travel worldwide.
He also worked as a sports writer and still knows as much about golf courses as a professional.
